Dickerman Park Spring Fling

SParkit is on the road @ the Hmong American Partnership Clean up day!

An excellent day working with the folks at the Hmong American Partnership on their volunteer day with COMCAST. Over 50 volunteers showed up to help take down the fence and make way for green space on the Hmong American Partnership's parking lot. Such a great group of neighborhood folks and volunteers! The SPARKit was there with music and and art activity for some of the youth volunteers!

sPARKit

We are excited for the launch of the "sPARKit"  Mobile Trailer!!

“sPARKit” is a mobile trailer/ pop up park, with all of the amenities needed to turn any green/ common space into an activated destination spot. The "sPARKit" mobile trailer has been being created as part of the Springboard for the Arts/Irrigate Project and the Trust for Public Land's work on the Green Line Parks and Commons Initiative.   The initiative is focused on imagining and creating new and innovative ways of utilizing public plazas and common spaces along The Green Line in St. Paul and Minneapolis.

The, “sPARKit”  mobile trailer will be traveling to locations along University Ave to celebrate the green and common spaces that currently exist and “spark”  conversations about how we can cultivate even more.  Our goal is to have the trailer set up on public and private common spaces along the University Ave Green Line.  Where are the green spaces along The Green Line that you think the "sPARKit" mobile trailer should visit?

Would you like to host any meetings at the trailer, hold a lecture series, create poetry reading or celebrate a community event?  We would be happy to discuss any ideas that you might have and discover how the trailer might best suit your organization’s needs.

The following items will be part of the “sPARKit” Amenities:
  • ·         Lightweight Colorful Teardrop Trailer Office
  • ·         Battery Powered  Sound and PA system
  • ·         12 Red Chairs and 6 Red bistro tables
  • ·         25 camp stools

Dickerman Park Demonstration Site

This past fall a great deal of time was spent gathering information and figuring out what would be the best way to support community engagements that already existed at Dickerman Park, a somewhat unknown park, located in the Hamline Midway neighborhood of St. Paul.  As part of the initial conversations and investigations the "Giving Gardens" which was created as part of a partnership between the Blue Cross and Blue Shield, the Midway YMCA, and the MN Horticultural Society, came to our attention and through a mutual need to close the season with a "Celebration" we came together to activate Dickerman Park and highlight the gardening that was located in front of the Midway YMCA, on Wheeler and University Ave in St. Paul.
